Hello, I’m Joy and I have a real passion for people. I can remember my career meeting at school when I was asked where I saw my future. At the age of 16 I didn’t have a clue, I just knew that I wanted to work with people, little did I know that it would lead to a career in HR. I wanted a job for life (remember them – no, me neither!) and started working for a major high street bank, as my career progressed and following redundancy from the bank (twice – long story!) I moved into providing HR support in a unionised manufacturing environment and loved it!
I left school with little in the way of qualifications (4 GCSE equivalents) but have since taken every opportunity to develop and now have quite a collection of certificates, supporting my passion for life-long learning. They include banking, payroll, coaching, counselling, mental health, training, HR practice and employment law; all supporting the employee lifecycle. I must confess that sometimes taking a qualification has made me realise that it is not an area I would like to specialise in but at least I have an understanding! Payroll being an example of this!
So what can I bring to your table? After travelling the sometimes rocky journey of an employee I can demonstrate an empathy and understanding which, in the past, has helped me diffuse situations with an agreeable outcome for both parties. I will listen to your needs, consider your business and work with you to reduce the risks that employing people can bring. I don’t have an ego or profess that I will have all of the answers immediately. However if it’s not an area that I have experience with, I will be honest with you and refer back to our team to find the right solution and work it through with you.
My mantra is be kind and true to yourself, things aren’t always as good or as bad as they look! Focus on daily tasks, the job today is the ambition for tomorrow!
